Sicky Sickerton

I've been home the past couple of days because I've been sick. It started on Sunday with just a bit of congestion. I battle this quite frequently so I didn't think too much of it, but towards the evening it was full blown sinus chaos. I didn't sleep one bit due to the feeling that everything was pushed into the top of my head and trying to get out. I tried my nettie pot and couldn't even get water to trickle through. So, I called into work at 5am so they would have enough time to find a substitute. I went to the doctor at 9:30am and had to drive 40 minutes to get there. There weren't any appointments in Salem. I thought it was just a sinus infection, but with my other symptoms they were worried I had the flu. They did a test where she stuck a long q-tip way up my nose and swirled it around. Not the best feeling when it's already swollen up there. They told me to stay home until Wednesday, which I was shocked to hear, but also relieved because I knew I wouldn't feel pressured to get better super quick. I was able to sleep and sleep all afternoon and really take care of myself.

So, here I am today, Tuesday, continuing to relax and get back to 100%. I actually just got a call from the doctor's office and they said I do not have the flu, but I do have a virus. The difference? Well, I just googled it and essentially both the flu and the cold are caused by viruses, but a flu virus is more serious because it can lead to pneumonia. I most likely have a cold virus. Which I will gladly take out of the two. They told me to continue with the Tamiflu and all my other goodies.

For the day I will be working on getting more planning for school done since I have the time, and relaxing some more. Currently, painting and drawing is working on portraits of people they admire. They will be using the grid transfer to put their images on cardboard before they paint in a monochromatic color scheme. They will be choosing a color they feel most represents the person of choice. For my example, I chose Malcolm X. Below is what I have accomplished so far. I chose a picture of him smiling, because it's not a common expression you see depicted of him. He has a solemn face in most pictures people use. I will also be using blue due to is peaceful and calm nature to represent the later part of his life, which also isn't depicted enough.

The students better be ready to get back to work once I'm there tomorrow! I know my Art I & II classes will be ready. They are in the middle of wheel throwing and I haven't allowed any of them to throw while I'm gone. I just didn't want to put that craziness onto a substitute teacher. Anyways, we'll get back in the swing of things. In other news, Craig and I finished our save the date and sent it out! It's posted below and we're kinda proud because we worked really hard on it (660 photos total!) and didn't kill each other in the process! Wedding on!

Savoring the last bits of vacation

My week has consisted of knitting, planning, eating, finishing our save the date, and tying up loose ends. I have been driving around without a license the past couple of months. It's not fun driving around thinking you might get pulled over by a cop, but it's even more not fun if you also know you don't have a license. I thought they were going to have to retake my picture, but no! They were able to just print off my last one which made me very happy. I really liked my last picture because I actually fixed my hair that day and I had a lovely summer tan.

I've been working on an infinity scarf for Craig's sister, and I'm about half way finished. I think I will have enough yarn to make a slouch hat to go with it. She's currently training for a marathon in Paris. She's raising money for cancer research through friends and family. It's so exciting I got the urge to start training for a race again, but that didn't last long. I did it once, and that's good enough for me. I think it would be cool if Craig and I did a 5k together sometime, but no more than that!
Tomorrow, I will be leaving for St. Louis for a doctor's appointment. There will also be lots of errands and hanging out with Rachel and Christie. I'll be staying the night with Rachel and then Saturday morning we'll go dress shopping on Cherokee. Hopefully, I'll find something I like in one of the vintage shops there. If not, I'll be headed to Anthropologie. I'd rather find something a bit more authentic, though.
I've been doing some planning for school, and I feel like I need to be doing A LOT more. However, I really just need to be in my classroom. It's hard when you live 40 minutes from your workplace to just go in everyday of your break. So, I planned for us to do ceramics the first 3-4 weeks we are back. I'm pretty comfortable teaching it, and I know the students will be excited about it. We'll be doing a combination of wheel throwing and handbuilding. My painting class will be doing monochromatic portraits of someone they admire. I'm excited to see what they come up with.
Well, that's the low down. I better get back to knitting so I can get this done and move on to making Craig another earflap hat. He shrunk his and it's a future bambino hat now.
